So many companies spend vast amounts of time and money on their performance management systems. There also seems to be some unwritten rule that no two companies can have the same system and that no system should be left in place for more than a couple of years. The unwritten rule from the people involved in the system is, for the most part, is to ignore it completely. Ignored that is apart from twice a year, once when objectives are set (and then ignored) and then when performance is reviewed at the end of the year to get some sort of arbitrary bonus. Everyone who comes on a course can trot out the reasons why PDRs etcetera are a good idea, all the benefits of doing it and value it adds.
