In these days of ever faster and complex means of communication with more information available to more people more often why is it that in nearly every staff survey “lack of communication” is somewhere near the top of any list of complaints. As a trainer I know that the most tiring sort of courses to run are the ones where you have to give lots of feedback. It’s not the feedback itself that’s tiring, it’s the active listening to enable me to give the feedback that wears me out. Proof, I think, that most people don’t listen at all well in their day to day lives.
